Information from the Takamatsu Junior Chamber Membership Training Committee.

We, the Membership Training Committee, are currently working hard to prepare for the 2024 JCI ASPAC Encore Convention so that we can convey the charms of Takamatsu to everyone.

Today, I would like to introduce dyeing. Since ancient times, dyed products have been made using a variety of local techniques, and in Takamatsu, which was a castle town, a technique called “Sanuki nori dyeing” was used, which is said to be rare in the world. The glue made from glutinous rice prevents dyes of different colors from mixing together, allowing the pattern to be dyed beautifully, giving it a different feel than printing.

The booth set up by the Takamatsu Junior Chamber will have dyed “tenugui” as prizes. How about a tenugui that is perfect for festivals during the hot season?

We will tell you about Takamatsu’s many charms, not just dyeing, so please stop by our booth at JAPAN NIGHT.
